My Weekend {pictures} + Leg Workout w/ Plyometrics

Happy Monday peeps!

This weekend actually felt quite long (not that I’m complaining), so I feel good and refreshed coming into this week. Here’s some of the fun I had:

Saturday, I took a boxing class in the morning. It was quite the sweat session! There were 3 instructors bringing the pain for an hour. Even though it was tough, I had a blast. Can’t wait for tomorrow night’s class!

photo 1

After we showered up, I decided to get a my hair blown out before we headed to a music festival. It wasn’t a fancy festival or anything, but I just didn’t feel like doing my hair. -_-

Guys…I’m SUPER lazy with my hair. I either let it air dry or put it up in a top knot. I have SO much hair and it’s wavy/frizzy, so it can be a pain in the ass. Anyways, once my hair was all done and pretty, and since I knew I’d actually be wearing NPC (normal-people-clothes) instead of gym clothes, I decided to do my makeup too! (Call it a national holiday! Alert the press!)

We then headed out to the Eagle Rock Music Festival. It had promise, but ended up being somewhat of a fail. The vibe was really cool and very family-oriented, but the music was just meh. There were a LOT of DJ’s (not my thing…and I can’t understand what is entertaining about watching someone stand in one place pushing buttons on a laptop and turning discs….but I digress) and the only decent bands were playing in acoustically untreated buildings = muddy musical mess. We did see one latino band that was totally not my style of music, but TOTALLY GOOD. Had we known what the rest of our options were, we definitely would have stayed and watched them longer.

People standing around watching a DJ....I DON'T GET IT. WHAT IS THERE TO SEE?!

People standing around watching a DJ….I DON’T GET IT. WHAT IS THERE TO SEE?!

Sunday, we headed to the batting cages to hit some balls. As many of you know, I played on the guys’ baseball team growing up, so I love getting chances to play! Happy to know, I’ve still got it!

We watched a little bit of the Chiefs game, and then I headed to the sauna gym for a workout. We’re going through a major heatwave (…didn’t I move from AZ to get away from that?!), so the temps have been quite ridiculous. Like, 97 in Santa Monica ridiculous!

I may or may not have walked out of the gym looking like I just jumped off a horse. As always, check with a doc before starting any new exercise routine. Use weights you’re comfortable with. I posted mine for reference, but you should do what is best for YOU.

Hope you guys have a great rest of your day! I’ll be back tomorrow with some more workouts for the week.

Be sure to check out my Ask Me Anything post and leave a comment with any questions you may have! I’ll be answering them all this week on the blog!

Question of the Day

1. What is the weather like in your part of the world? Still summer-like? Fall? Winter-y?

Weekend Relaxation

Good morning!

I started my day off with 20 minutes on the stairmill (per Monday usual) and a COFFEE. I love my coffee everyday, but it’s extra special on Mondays. 🙂

Weekend Fun

This weekend was really awesome. Friday night, my friend and I went to get full body reflexology massages. It was only $25 and was INCREDIBLE. It was definitely the type of massage that made you clench your teeth at times, but it was also super relaxing. They focused a lot on the feet, which was both painful and extremely ticklish! I have the most ticklish feet on the planet, so I had to take a lot of deep breaths to prevent myself from kicking my masseuse in the face.

Saturday morning, Charlie and I got up and hit the gym. He’s actually letting me put him on a training program (:-D!!!!!!) so he’ll be working out with me 3-4 times per week. We did the same back/biceps workout I did last week. It’s a scorcher!

4 sets of Pull Ups (as many as you can do on your own)

3 Supersets of T-Bar Row & DB Bicep Curls (10-12 reps of each)

3 Supersets of Banded Chin Ups & Rope Hammer Curls (6-8 chin ups & 12-15 hammer curls)

Afterwards, he went to the studio to get some work done while I chilled out at home. When he got back, we went to see No Good Deed

11179696_800I rate it an 8/10. The suspense was awesome and kept me entertained throughout, but it was a little predictable. There were definitely some twists and turns that surprised me, though! I say, go see it!

Sunday morning, we grabbed some coffee and drove down to Main Street in search of breakfast. We ended up at Firehouse, which is one of my favorites! It’s an old firehouse-turned-restaurant, and also happens to be right next to Gold’s Gym (a.k.a The Mecca). 4815559804_c44e96337b_bTheir menu has tons of options for bodybuilders and fitness freaks alike. I ended up getting what I always get, the Turkey Scramble. It’s just egg whites, ground turkey, tomatoes, and cilantro, but it’s SO SO good! I didn’t snap a photo, but it’s definitely worth re-creating at home!

After running some errands, we ended up at the park to play catch! This is something that we try to do whenever we can, as we both grew up playing baseball and we can keep up with eachother! Baseball (not softball) was MY sport…I played year round throughout my childhood and into my high school years. I was really good at it and had it been acceptable for a girl to play on my high school baseball team (Yes, I tried out and I was the last cut and was unofficially told it was because I was a girl), who knows where I would’ve ended up! They called me “The Vacuum” at first base for a reason! 😉

Anyways, that was a really long-winded way of saying that I still love baseball and it has a really special place in my heart. The fact that I can go play ball with my man and he can keep up (and even show me up at times) makes me really happy.

The rest of our Sunday was spent watching movies and napping. It was GLORIOUS. We don’t do that very often, so it was nice to just go in and out of sleep on the couch for hours.

Workouts for the Week

Monday: 20 min. Stairmill + Chest/Triceps

Tuesday: Boxing

Wednesday: Legs

Thursday: Shoulders/Abs + Boxing

Friday: Back/Biceps

Saturday: Boxing

Sunday: Active Rest

You’ll notice there aren’t any planned rest days, but I will definitely take one if I feel like I need it. I always listen to my body and a shitty workout doesn’t do anybody any good.

Hope your Monday is off to a great start!

Question of the day

1. What was your main hobby growing up? (could be sport, arts, etc.)

Whirlwind Weekend + a Hotel Workout!

Hey people!! How’s it hangin’?!

It’s a lovely Monday and once again, going to be a busy one. I’m cool with that, though. I had a fantastic weekend, and I’m ready to get back to work and my regular routine!

Thursday night, Charlie and I flew to Tucson, AZ for the weekend for the  Audio Pot Luck Con. It was an intimate gathering of audio engineers and audio companies, and we had a blast! So many great people and tons of geekiness going on. Just the way I like it.

I finally got my Eegee’s too!

Friday morning, I got up to do a workout before heading over to the trade show. It kind of kicked my ass. The hotel had a decent gym, too, which was refreshing!

After not getting much sleep over the past few weeks, we made up for it and slept in on Saturday! It felt good to not have to be up for something and to not have my mental alarm clock wake me up.

We spent Saturday at the convention and even tried to duck out in the afternoon to hang by the pool. I’m not even kidding, the MOMENT we got to the pool, it started pouring rain. Whomp whomp.

photo 3(you can’t tell it was raining here, but I assure you, it was.)

We ended up just going out for sushi and hanging out for the rest of the evening. We had an early flight (read: 4am wake up call) on Sunday morning, so we didn’t want to be out too, too late.

We got up Sunday at the crack of dawn, called our Uber driver friend who woke up especially for us, and hit the road for the airport. It was a quick flight and I was exhausted by the time we landed in LA. As soon as we got back to our apartment, I literally dropped my bags by the front door and crawled into bed. I ended up sleeping until 1pm. It was glorious.

I finished out my Sunday with a leg workout and some work. I feel refreshed after a great weekend and ready to take on the week!

1. Do weekends away make you less stressed or more stressed for the coming week?

2. What was your favorite thing you did this weekend?

Wow, what a weekend! It was a fun one, but like usual, I didn’t relax much. Let’s back up to Friday…

Friday Workout

I planned on doing a track workout after work, but for some STUPID reason, I decided to do a workout at the gym beforehand. I’m honestly not sure what I was thinking, but I really just felt like throwing some weight around and getting in a hard workout.

This is what I ended up doing:

Part 1: Tabata Jump Rope (8 minutes)

Part 2: 5 Rounds – Superset: Barbell Snatch & Jump Squats

Part 3: 15 min. AMRAP of 9 Deadlifts (95lbs), 12 Push-Ups, and 15 Box Jumps (20 in. box).

I ended up making it through 6 rounds.

I really wanted to back out of the track workout, but I was meeting a friend and didn’t want to leave him high and dry. We ended up doing:

4 x 75 meters

4 x 50 meters

4 x 30 meters

Needless to say, my legs were and still are DEAD.

Saturday

Saturday I took a complete “rest” day (duh). I say that because I didn’t work out, but I was running around all day.

Charlie and I started off by grabbing a coffee and then getting breakfast at a little cafe called Blue Plate in Santa Monica. It’s a cute little restaurant, but it’s very cramped. The food was pretty good, but I was ready to get out of there by the time we were done eating.

blueplate

After we finished, I picked up my friends and we got ready to head to a going away party for another friend. She’s moving to London and had all of us bring a dish from another country. We intended to do just that, but somehow we ended up at Aah’s (a costume store), bought Ninja Turtle T-shirts, and decided to bring pizza to the party. Ninja Turtles had their own country, right?!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Lizzy

Teenage Mutant Ninja Lizzy

Yeah okay, not the most logical thinking, but it was fun! There were actual some better photos taken, but my friend hasn’t sent them to me yet. We spent the night eating, drinking (well, they did), and just hanging out. It was a good time, but around 11pm, I became a pumpkin and went home.

Sunday

Sunday, my older brother (who just moved back from Israel), Charlie, and I headed out for a hike to Skull Rock. This is one of my favorite hikes in LA. The rock actually looks like a skull!

Skull Rock on Temescal Ridge Trail in Topanga State ParkThe hike is about a 6 on a scale of 1-10 in difficulty, and the weather was great. I was hoping it would shake out my legs, but MANNNNN I am still soooooo sore. Hoping that wears off by the end of today.

Hangin' with my older brother

I spent the rest of my Sunday working with my good friend and former roommate Jules on a project we’ve been talking about. It’s finally coming to fruition and it’s going to be AWESOME. I’ll be sure to let you guys know when that’s coming…..

Here’s my plan for the rest of the week:

Monday: 20 min. HIIT + Bouldering

Tuesday: Crossfit

Wednesday: Legs

Thursday: Upper Body

Friday: Rest

Saturday: Full Body

Sunday: Rest

I’ll be traveling Thursday – Sunday, so that part of the schedule might change. I’ll likely be doing quick 15-20 minute workouts from my e-book to get a quick and efficient workout in my hotel room!

Have you ever been SO SORE that you actually considered calling out of work?

I’m not kidding, I want to know if someone has ever done this! LOL

Weekend, Filming, Workouts, Pawn Shops!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Mine was pretty low-key, but I think that was much-needed after Friday’s long day.

Friday was the 2nd filming day for the WBBC At-Home Fitness Program! We were in the sun for about 6.5 hours, did 4 workouts, and lots of other speaking footage. It was a ton of fun, but a ton of work, too! If you’re interested in the program, you can click this link to get on our waiting list. 😉

I’m a total doophus and forgot to wear sunscreen.

Ouch.

Ouch.

(Funny story about that “Kiss Me” balloon….it’s from Valentine’s day!! Charlie and I are trying to see how long it will stay inflated. Best.balloon investment.ever, if you ask me.)

The camera man and I have some very funny farmer’s tans going on!

His and Hers Sunburns

His and Hers Sunburns

I’m not trying to make light of these sunburns. It’s obviously extremely dangerous, but we were just so frazzled in the morning that we both forgot sunscreen. :-/ Live and learn.

Here are some shots from the filming:

Anyways, I’m really excited for this to come out!

After filming and working out in the sun all day, we were STARVING. We found an AWESOME little Hawaiian burger shack nearby called, Shaka Shack Burgers. AMAZING. The sweet potato fries were probably the best I’ve ever heard. SUPER GREASY and DELICIOUS haha. I ordered the Turkey Burger and it was pretty awesome too.

Saturday

Charlie and I always talk about going to pawn shops to see if we can luck out with some smokin’ deals. It’s much more difficult these days since you can find out what everything is worth on the internet. We finally decided that this was the day we would actually go look!

We drove to Hollywood and went to a few different pawn shops. There was definitely some interesting stuff in them, but ultimately, we walked away empty handed. We ALMOST got a really killer deal on a vintage microphone, but alas, it didn’t work. Womp, womp.

We finished around 4:30pm and decided to go to the Arclight to see Neighbors.

Neighbors_(2013)_PosterThis movie definitely had some hilarious moments, but overall, I’d give it a 7. Probably best to wait for it to come out on DVD, which nowadays should be about 2 weeks! Haha. (Remember when you used to have to wait MONTHS AND MONTHS for a movie to come out just for RENTAL….buying it was like a year. Crazy how times have changed.)

We finished off the night by making dinner, baking cookies (YUM) and watching Dexter.

Sunday

I woke up earlier than Charlie and started cleaning the house. Eventually he joined me and then we headed to the gym for a workout. We did the following supersets (weights/reps are mine…Charlie is stronger than me and did more weight plus higher box jumps):

Superset #1:

4 Sets of

-Medicine Ball Thrusters (16 lb ball x 15 reps)

-DB Push Ups w/ Rotation (10 lb DBs x 8 reps)

Superset #2:

4 Sets of

Heavy Deadlifts (139 lbs x 10 reps)

Burpee-Pull Ups (bw x 5 reps)

Superset #3:

2 Sets of

DB Shoulder Press (25lb DBs x 8 reps)

Box Jumps (24 inc. x 10 reps)

Charlie also helped me work on my form for box jumps. I was doing the 24 inch box, which I’ve done many times before, but my form wasn’t great. With the tips he gave me, I’m ready to tackle the tall 30 inch box. Just need to get some cajones, that’s all!

Some fun slo-mo videos of us!

That’s all I’ve got today! I’ll be back tomorrow morning with my workout plans for the week!

Have you ever been to a pawn shop?

Ever found a REALLY cool steal while at a pawn shop?

Lovely Sunday

After a few days of a lot of work and long days, I’m finally relaxing today. It feels so good! I’ve had a great few days, but I’m exhausted.

On Friday, I attended/worked an all day seminar. I got a LOT out of it, but it made for a long day. I was out of bed by 5am Friday, and we didn’t get done until about 6:30pm. I had also agreed to babysit my boss’s kids Friday night, so I didn’t get home until about 1:30am.

This would have been fine, had I not had to get up at 6am on Saturday!! All for good reason though. Yesterday was the launch of The World’s Best Bridal camp as well as the enlistment for The World’s Best Bootcamp Platoon 004!! A fun day, indeed.

20140426-224521.jpg

After I finished, although I’d only gotten in about 7 hours of sleep total between two nights, I needed a workout. Mentally needed it. Here’s what I did:

Saturday Workout

3 Rounds of:
5 Pull Ups
10 Push Ups
15 Squats

5 Rounds of:
8 KB Snatch (per side)
8 KB Cleans (per side)
8 KB Front Squats (per side)
8 KB Swings

It worked me for sure. And I proceeded to nap for FOUR HOURS. I felt like a new woman afterwards.

Once I was up and got my life back together, I headed to the studio to hang with my man while he recorded drums for a client.

20140426-224835.jpg

As for today, I have no real plans except for good coffee and some relaxation. I may sneak in a workout, but I’m not pressuring myself. I have to film 4 full workouts on Tuesday (more on that later), so I may rest up a bit.

Hope you’re all having a FAB Sunday!!

Question of the day:
-Do you like naps? Hate them?

I go back and forth. Love them when they’re REALLY necessary (like Saturday) but for the most part, I feel like I should/would rather be doing something else.

Workout Plan 3/31 – 4/5 + Why I Work on Sundays

A brand new week and the closing of a month! How has March treated everyone?

Mine was pretty good:

I worked out a lot

I visited family in AZ (Twice!)

The earth in SoCal moved a lot! (got another one on Friday night!)

I watched a lot of Dexter and did other random things

Why I Work on Sundays

For most people, the weekend is a time to relax and catch up on life outside of work. I agree to a certain extent (although I find myself working whenever I’m not being occupied with something else) but also reserve Sunday afternoons for work.

Most of you probably think I’m crazy. Sunday evenings are a time to relax, watch TV, do something fun, etc. I try to squeeze all of that in on Saturdays and Sunday mornings.

Here is why I like to work on Sunday afternoons:

– It gives me a chance to get ahead. Why put off to tomorrow what I can do today? My Mondays are usually overloaded with meetings and to-dos, so getting a little bit ahead with things that I can do the day before is helpful.

-My phone and e-mail aren’t blowing up. Guys, I carry two cell phones and have about 5 different e-mail addresses. I’m your typical LA girl who’s talking on one cell phone while texting/e-mailing on another. It’s sad and I’m not proud of it, but for now, it’s what I’ve got to do. I love my work and jobs (although sometimes overwhelming and stressful) so for now, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sunday evenings, my phone is SILENT. No e-mails (not even junk e-mails), no phone calls, and very few text messages. I can work on something and not get sidetracked, pulled away by something more important, or be completely unfocused. There is a zen about being able to work when everything is quiet.

-I feel accomplished and ready for the week ahead. Getting into “work-mode” the night before helps make my Mondays less stressful. It gets my head back in the “hustle” state of mind and allows for Monday morning to be that much less of an “oh my gosh i have 5 million things to do RIGHT NOW” kind of morning.

So there you have it. Working on Sunday afternoons doesn’t make sense for some people that don’t have jobs that require almost 24/7 attention, and it just isn’t for everybody. Some people would rather just start back up on Monday, and that’s totally fine. My brain just can’t handle it and I feel much more sane getting some things done early.

With that said…..
